Guidelines for Submitting Houses to Natural Home
Natural Home features 10 to 12 houses (about two per issue) each year. We are looking for homes that are built or remodeled using cutting-edge, sustainable building methods and are tastefully decorated using natural, organic products. If your home is chosen for a feature article, you must be open to allowing a professional photographer in to shoot original photography as well as cooperating with a writer who will put together a feature article. The Natural Home editorial team will work closely with you to make sure your home is beautifully represented.
We choose homes to feature about 18 months to two years in advance of publication so we can shoot your home in the proper season for the issue in which it will be featured. (We shoot a year ahead so we can shoot for the November/December issue while snow’s on the ground and in March/April while daffodils are blooming, etc.)
Submission guidelines for gardens are similar to houses. We feature six gardens (about one per issue) each year.
To submit a home, please send us the following:
- A description of the home and a comprehensive list of what makes the home green. Highlight all the natural, sustainable materials and methods used so that we can be certain it’s appropriate for Natural Home.
- Photos of the home. Snapshots, color copies or j-pegs are fine (please DO NOT send high-resolution images via email). Include photos of the interiors (all the major rooms: living room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.) as well as the exterior. We do not ever feature unfinished homes or houses in progress. The home must be finished and completely furnished to be considered.
- Contact information for homeowners as well as builder and architect (if appropriate).
- A self-addressed stamped envelope, if you would like photos returned.
