Eco-Shopping in New York

Terra Verde Trading Company in Soho offers stylish and inspiring products for the natural home. In business since 1990, Terra Verde is one of the original green boutiques, and it’s one of the few that’s still in business. Its buyers’ commitment to researching the environmental effects of products is impeccable, and the store carries the best.

Terra Verde features everything from cleaning and personal care products to luxurious bed and bath linens, organic innerspring and latex mattresses, and natural wall paints. Its own craftspeople can custom-build reclaimed wood furniture with natural finishes to your design specifications.

Way uptown in the Bronx, Environmental Construction Outfitters (ECO) is a perfect complement to Terra Verde. While Terra Verde focuses on boutique items, ECO provides products to make the building itself safe and sustainable. ECO specializes in serving building professionals, but everyone can purchase its products which are imported from all over the world.

The ECO showroom is actually a warehouse, but what it lacks in charm it makes up for in quantity. There are piles of samples to wander through. You can get everything you need to decorate your home, including floor coverings, glues and adhesives, formaldehyde-free wall and ceiling panels, finishes and paint products, wallpaper, cabinetry, and shelving. ECO also carries electromagnetic radiation shielding, air and water filters, and ozone treatment for hot tubs and swimming pools.
