Kids love to get out in the garden. Here are just a few things they can do:

■ Plant the big seeds: pumpkins, squash, beans, corn
■ Fill peat pots with soil for starting seeds in the spring
■ Grow their own vegetables in their own small plot
■ Weed in beds with plants such as onions, which are easy to distinguish from weeds and easy to replant if they make a mistake
