The HP Pavilion dv6929 recently won a green-design competition set by Wal-Mart that challenged electronics manufacturers to make a product that would be the most eco-friendly. The laptop’s packaging (a reusable messenger bag, made from 100 percent recycled materials) reduces wasteful packing materials by 97 percent.

Shipping the eco-friendly laptops also conserves fuel because the smaller packaging is equivalent to removing one out of four trucks previously needed to ship the computers.
The messenger bag packaging removes the need for cardboard, foam and plastic previously required to package and ship the computers. The laptop is also Energy Star-qualified and is EPEAT silver registered, which evaluates desktop computers, laptops and monitors based on their environmental attributes.
The laptop is sold at more than 1,700 Wal-Mart stores for $798.
